Birth of an American icon
Louis Chevrolet was one of the great automobile pioneers and technological innovators. It all began in the US back in 1911 when Louis Chevrolet, a renowned race car driver and automotive engineer, designed a prototype passenger vehicle and co-founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company of Michigan with William Durant, the founder of General Motors. Conscious of the potential for this type of car, Louis Chevrolet threw all of his creative genius into the production of a number of iconic models. The passion and genius of its founder continue to inspire the brand, which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year!
100 years of experience designing efficient and reliable cars
Whether they are city cars, sedans or SUVs, Chevrolets combine passion, design, comfort and safety to make driving a pleasant experience. The brand's reputation has been forged by providing excellent value for money and satisfying customer expectations in very different markets throughout the world. Chevrolet is the world's fourth largest automaker and is currently experiencing rapid growth driven by a series of new launches that include the compact Spark city car, the Captiva SUV and the new Cruze sedans. Chevrolet sold 2.35 million cars worldwide in the first-half of 2011, the best ever six-month performance in its history!
WTCC Manufacturers' Champion
Car racing is in Chevrolet's blood and it has clocked up many victories in motor sports. It also uses the extreme conditions of competitions to test out its new technologies and innovations. In 2005, it joined the World Touring Car Championship which features cars similar to those that race in major championships and is one of only three competitions sanctioned by the FIA, along with Formula 1 and the World Rally Championship. In 2011, Chevrolet won the Manufacturers' Championship in the WTCC for the second time thanks to Frenchman Yvan Muller, driving a Cruze.
